Harmon Kardon 3470 Bad Right Channel

Hi all,

I have a HK 3470 that has no sound coming out of the right channel on any input for either speaker 1 terminals or speaker 2 terminals.

It has a pre out, main in. When I take the left channel pre out and jumper it to left main in I get sound out of the left speaker. When I take the left pre out and put it to right main in, I get music out of the right speaker. If I do this exercise with the right pre out I get no sound.

This leads me to believe that the right pre amp or before is the issue but am unsure what to do next.

Any help would be great in where to look.

Your problem is in the right channel preamp. Good troubleshooting. I see this has non locking push buttons so switching is all electronic. Could be a bad switching IC. Input a sine wave into an Aux input and go through it with a scope to see where the signal is being lost.
