Harmon Kardon 3480????

Is the Harman Kardon 3480 a decent stereo reciever? I would be listening mainly with headphones. I just want something reliable and decent sounding. Amazon has them new for $220. What problems have people had with this unit? I have heard that H/K's reliability has been questionable lately.

Thay had some problems getting the Malaysian factory's quality up, but things have since smoothed out. You don't hear too many people giving feedback, but there are a few owners out there.

Generally positive. Probably not a top ten contender in the grand scheme, but new for $220 with a warranty and remote is hard to beat.

I've been running HK receivers in my HT for about 6 years daily on / off, never a problem.
 
I was a big H/K fan back in the day (~ the 670 era) and I've wondered the same. I have an H/K HT receiver and I'm pleased with it, I think a Marantz HT would prolly be a bit better, but I always have to do the price/bang for the buck comparison.
If you get it, let us know what you think, it's rated at 120 WPC but rather lightweight, IIRC, that's kinda hard to believe considering my older H/Ks weighed a ton (like most vintage gear I guess).

I used to have an H/K 930 receiver back in the 70's. that was a great sounding unit!
 
I think it is one of the better two channel units currently available. The tuner is just average (not very sensitive), but the amp is typical H/K, plenty of clean power. If you need a receiver with a more sensitive tuner a Denon would be better, but cost more.

I own one and that is exactly how I would describe it.

The only major issue I have with Denon is that they sound rather weak on the low end. H/Ks don't have that problem.
