Harmon Kardon citation 1 vs 4 preamp

Now that ive got my Fisher 50a mono amps up and running im looking for opinions on these two Vintage HK preamplifiers.I have a HK citation iv near to me just wondering if there would be anything to gain holding out for the HK Citation 1

Unless you're planning on playing a lot of mono/older records I'd probably be tempted to go with the Citation IV. Less complex, highly regarded phono stage, tone controls can be switched out of the circuit, and it can probably be picked up for less than a Citation I.

Ive got one close to me but its an attic pull and hasn't seen any maintenance,faceplate is clean tho and its still got its original tubes,seller claims its working. so will be looking at a small cost to rehab,wondering if it would compliment the Fishers
 
Unmolested original with original tubes and good faceplate? Get it now, ask questions later !! :thmbsp: I don't think you could possibly go wrong.
 
I see its your personal peeve,i get it,im getting up in age ,been known to forget my bride of 26 yrs's first name on occasion,and even tho ive owned HK 16 a amps for ever I still get it wrong when power typing......youd think the spell check would catch it...lol

contacted the owner of the HK iv preamp and after having it listed for sale here local the last 8 months he just sold it{650]OH well I will keep my eyes open,that unit was in prestine shape as well.My buddy actually bought his HK citation 5 from him about 7 months back .He also had a pair of tannoy gold 12's,must of been a kicking system back in the day
 
any reason you not considering a Fisher 400c instead of the citations? I have a citation I and like it but if I had a pair of 50As I think id prefer to run them with a fisher preamp.

that's in the cards as well if I can find a deal,unit needing love ect as they are way up there in price now.I had considered the HK unit in part as it would have been half the price of a 400c/400cx
