Harmon Kardon & KEF Q100

Hey guys,

What does everyone think about the pairing a pair of KEF Q100 with a Harman Kardon 725 and 770 pre-amp and amp?

I'm still searching for the right amp for these speakers after picking them up about a year ago.

Any one have experience pairing HK with KEF ?

Thanks!

I'm told that Cambridge Audio amplifiers play nicely with KEF speakers by a couple of owners.

I've listened to the R series, but not the Q, so no personal experience.

I have the Q300's they and the Q100's are easy to drive and will sound fine with lots of gear choices. However, they will not hide distortion so be sure whatever you use it is up to spec.

My Kef Q100 pair well w/ my Yamaha A-S500 Integrated. Have not heard Harman Kardon.

The Kef's seem to like some power behind them to sound their best.

Hey guys, well I picked up the HK amp and HK pre and have been auditioning here at home. So far, not my favorite pairing. I do hear a bit of distortion. So far these speakers have been best served by my 2226 Marantz -- which is the lowest watt amp in my collection.

I have been listening to the Harman Hardon for a couple hours now and I have to say it is growing on me. It sounds to me like the HK has more "control" over the music; better bass response and a 'cleaner' presentation of the low end.

Initially, I thought the Marantz was out performing it but once compared side by side I found the low end from the Marantz to sort of "wash" over the mix making me prefer the HK. Vocals through the Marantz are however, gorgeous!

I'm relatively new to this. I'm curious does my above comments line up with sentiments of those who have more experience than I do? Is HK know for clean and powerful bass response? Marantz for "sweet" vocals? Admittedly, I need to brush up on my vocab so I can better talk about what I am heading. Thanks for bearing with me! I do love hearing what you all have to say!

daveg3588 as an HK fan what speakers do you like paired with HK amps?
H/K equipment has a clean sound to me. Marantz has a warm sound, softer, not as defined. I have JBL L166, 4311 and 4301. Each has a different voice, L166 flat, open, natural sound. The 4311 punch you in the face. The 4301 is well balanced small speaker, 2 way 8" .

Thanks! I'll have to try some JBLs at some point; how do you contrast your Adcom system from your HK? What is the configuration you've got set up right now?

So after further listens I'm still liking the H/K. I agree that the KEF show any flaws in the chain, whether from the source equipment, pre, amp, or actualy recording. So far I'd say that a possible weak link of the HK 725 may be the phono section... anyone have an experience or feelings there? Not sure what I'm hearing there yet other than just an tinge of sharp or brightnes--could also be my needle; I'm running a blue Technics stylus on my Dual 1245. Any comments would be appreciated! Thanks!

Condorsat or anyone else with KEF Q100s do you guys use the foam inserts that it came with to stuff the port on the front? I'm currently using them and liking the sounds--just curious other's thoughts.

I also might try them with a Sansui au-6600 integrated.... anyone tried that or similar? I have to bring it home from a shop so if its gonna be a flop I wont bother.
