I just finished a complete recap on this HK 930, 1972. I have done dozens of rebuilds on newer and bigger receivers. I also did and HK 730 in the past. My client wanted this rebuilt, even though it sounded pretty good to me, and I advised against it at this time. But jobs are hard to come by, so I agreed. I do one section at a time, and confirm all work before moving on, and although the power supply is built more like tube gear, I did a stellar job on this! Did the final board yesterday, the PA. I had done Tone board the day before, and unit sounded great. These boards have no silk screening, but manual is excellent. All caps are triple checked for polarity, conditioned at rated voltage before installation, and since no caps have blown up, I know all are installed properly. During Dim Bulb test the first time, a short was indicated, so I took the PA board out, isolated, and looked for the short. Found nothing and reassembled. On Dim Bulb test 2nd time not short indicated and unit powered up. I played a perfect receiver for like 15 minutes, bulb flared, and I lost sound. Now all works fine thru headphones, but when a speaker load is applied, unit acts like dead short. All output transitors OK. Checking drivers now. Any ideas out there?
