I was surfing the web before. Riding links into other links and I ran across this company
"The Upgrade Company"
At first I was thinking , I'm surprised I never saw a store like this before. After reading the Copy, I got a strange (negative vibe) feeling about the site.
I want to point out I have had no dealing or even contact with the company and my feelings are based on nothing but gut.
So I was curious has anybody seen the site , contacted them , had work done by them, or heard a piece of equipment they've worked on?

I guess my issue is, all the high end gear we hold near and dear is apparently majorally flawed and made of cheap crap, but for a nominal fee they will make unexplained improvements that will magically transform your junk into state of art HiFi. My feeling is if I'm handing you several thousand dollars of audio equipment and several thousand dollars, I have a reasonable right to know what service (parts, changes, etc. You are doing and what I can expect when you're done. Just my feelings.

Agreed. One deserves to know what is being done to his equipment. Is it placing a better quality component to bottle necks in the circuit design or is it just changing a resistor in the loudness circuitry to make it "better".

Lots of scams out there but also good legitimate businesses. I hope someone at AK has experience to share with this particular company.

What are you planing on upgrading?
 
At least in those cases we know what is being done. I think the OP's point is that with this place, they don't explain what they are doing or why.
 
I think I get the OPs point. The website reads like a 'pushy used-car salesman's' spiel. The same couple of points get repeated many times over. No info about the work, just that 'nobody brings it back', and this or that brand is '5X better than stock', after SE upgrades. Maybe it's all true.

If the website is their idea of a design that will draw in customers, however, I think they missed the mark, and horribly so. They might do great work, I have no knowledge. I just can't get past the tingly spidey-sense, when I read their website.

It's more than a little off-putting, for me.
 
Read the website... a lot of what they say makes sense, but the overall sales pitch and repetition of how "proprietary" their process is, just kind of reeks of snake oil. Sounds like they do upgrades that any qualified/competent tech could do for a lot less money...
 
I guess I'm skeptical enough that this doesn't seem any more "snake oil" than 99% of the similar stuff out there.
 
I always appreciated the work Dan Wright did, he hand picked certain models he felt he could improve and he went for it. Ultimately, he started building his own products but he still does modifications. I bought one of his first preamps and it runs like a champ ... it's one of my all time favorites. His work is really top notch.

I did get a not-so-good feeling reading through the Upgrade Company's web site. Did you read his feedback page? Apparently I'm the only Mac owner that hasn't had work done. I like the service idea but the web space needs to be redesigned.
 
I don't see anything wrong with someone wanting nourishing snake oil rubbed on his Mcintosh. Its like a happy ending massage. We all know its not really a massage, we just don't talk about it. Just give me her business card and lets not get into the details afterwards.

just like auto mechanics that are guru's in there field there are some good audio witch doctors.some like to have this type of service available.if you are curious go for it but if there is any doubt then do what your brain tells you.the thing to do is monitor their track record.i have found that here on AK word gets around and Charlatans will be exposed.

some time you gotta trust till you get burned...
 
all I can glean from the info they provide is they "eliminate" any RFI/EMI issues and provide you with a certificate and a foil sticker which they are clearly very proud of.
