Has anyone here ever ordered replacement circuitry/parts from Union Electronic Distributors?

I have a JVC QL-A220 turntable from the early 80's, my first "real" turntable. The auto return function doesn't seem to be working, and I narrowed it down to a missing engagement lever in the turntable's inner workings. However, I couldn't find the missing lever anywhere inside of the turntable. It seems to have fallen out somewhere. I did find the "lower trip" portion of the lever, though. I snagged the item number of the engagement lever from the turntable's service manual, and searched for it online. I found out that a website known as "ued.net" actually carries replacement parts for my turntable. Although, the engagement lever on their website is currently not in stock. Their projected in-stock date for this engagement lever is January 6th, 2021. The lever is only $2. Do you guys think that they would actually be carrying parts for such an old turntable? Or is this a scam?

I doubt they're a scam (for $2+shipping? come on). Presumably when you order it, they actually order it from their supplier, which is why it says "not stocked" rather than "not in stock".

Worse case, they don't come through and don't refund you, dispute the charge on your credit card.

So what that last part means is that just because they have it listed doesn't mean that they can get it.

Sounds good, I was just wondering. I did try to order a new stylus for this turntable from Music Moito a few weeks ago, and I ended up getting a piece of plastic that looked like it belonged to one of those cheap USB turntables. That's why I'm kind of wary about ordering parts.
 
Well, you should order a stylus for a cartridge, not a turntable. Back when yours was made, they would have been purchased separately.

Also, note that I updated my first post after you responded.

Yes, I'll try and order the part and see what happens. I'm new to the world of turntables, so I didn't know what I was doing at first. I'm just going to scrap the current cartridge (A Shure 5X that wasn't even mounted properly, seems to be low-end.) and get myself a new one. Thanks for the help.
 
If the cartridge is in good working order (they rarely go bad) and physically sound, don't toss it. It is a re-badged Shure M75ED Type II...kind of a classic Shure model. You can get a good Japanese stylus for it for $35. The hyperelliptical JICO stylus is very good (but pricey), and I seem to recall that someone is now making nice nude elliptical and hyperelliptical versions (Pfanstiehl?).

BTW, UED is a legitimate appliance parts supplier, but I would guess that it may take them some time to refund you after you order it and find out that they cannot obtain it.

The problem is that the body of the cartridge has come unglued from it's mounting shell after all these years. I tried to glue the cartridge back on, but now it sits slightly uneven on the shell. The stylus is now angled towards the side because of that. Would it potentially damage my vinyl?

Yes! Do not play your good LP's with that or they'll be damaged.
 
I saw that site as well and tried to send them an email but they never responded back so I don't really know what to make of that... I was looking for a Technics switch. It just seemed a bit odd frankly.
 
UED has been in the electronics part distribution business for eons. They were one of the Sony part distributors for a long time along with a bunch of other brands.

100% legitimate, unless something has changed there.

That said, this site (and others like it) very often continue to show NLA parts as available after the inventory runs out. When someone orders one and they find they can't come up with the part, the web site gets updated to show NLA - usually. They may also do periodic cleanup but with hundreds of thousands of items, stuff gets missed.
