Has anyone watched the new Deadwood (the movie)?

Question for anyone that has watched it yet on HBO. Do you have to watch the series to "get" the movie?

We just got thru watching the whole series again for the third time and still love it just as much as we did the 1st time.
It still makes any other Western look "Hollywood" by comparison and is the best I've seen. We'll be looking forward to the movie too when it hits Netflix.

Olyphant is definitely in it - see the trailer below. I haven't seen it as I won't pay for HBO. Don't count on this ever coming to Netflix. HBO don't seem to play dat game.

To answer the OP (a bit late), yes, it would help if you'd seen the series first. I only watched about a year of it, but knew enough to appreciate the wrap-up movie.

I just bought the series on dvd off of ebay. I watched it on HBO when it first aired. And I just had to have it. It was one of those shows that you could almost smell. So profane and raw. I've gotta get the movie.

It's more enjoyable if you watched the series first, but it also stands on its own. Liked the movie for the most part (seemed a bit rushed) but I would have liked a full season instead.
