Has Yamaha worked out the issues within their CD-S2100 CD Player?

Well, Christmas is right around the corner and I am looking at treating myself with either the Yamaha CS-S2100 CD player or the Technics SL-1200GR2 turntable with a good cartridge. I’m leaning towards the CD-S2100, but after reading all the reviews, it is very disheartening with several different transport issues, and and so on. Granted most of these reviews were from the 2019 to 2022 period, so I am wondering if Yamaha has worked out all the bugs on their $3K CD player.

Has anybody purchased a CD-S-S2100 player since late 2022 to now? If so, what are your thoughts on the overall condition on this disc player. Also, any issues with the unit‘s transport system, the laser correctly reading the disc AND if the are any issues with reading/playing SACDs?

I’m basically building my last forever 2 channel system and I am hoping to purchase the CD-S2100 CD player to replace my current CD-S700 disc player, but I don’t want to spend $3Ks on a product that’s only going to give me issues or simply dies within a year or two. I’ve been a Yamaha loyalist since 1987 and I’d like to keep it that way.

I can't help with info concerning the CD-S2100 but I have an older CD-S2000.

It has been completely reliable.
Actually, when I bought it I immediately bought a complete laser and drive motor assembly and installed it to zero-hour the unit. I kept the original assy as a backup, and later bought not only another complete unit but also a single laser.
So I figure that I should be able to keep the player running longer than my estimated remaining lifetime.

The player has been running several hours per day since late 2018 now and just plays everything without problems, including all SACD's. It has never given me a single problem.

I have the S3000 and have no issues now that I leave it on most of the time. It only draws a watt or three per hour so the monthly bill is pennies but it now plays CDs and SACDs perfectly from the get-go.

I have the cd s2100 and it's having issue with locking onto DAC for streaming. Keep getting drop outs. I thought it was my wifi, but it has boiled down to the built in DAC. I'm gonna contact Yamaha Support. Pretty disappointing.

I bought a Linn cdp player back in the 90's. It cost around $3k+. Looking back, I wish I hadn't spent that much on a cdp. I feel a better route to take is to buy a good player that has a digital out. Use the player as a transport only and buy a good DAC. That way you can upgrade the DAC as the technology gets better and better.
My thinking is...why spend that kind of money when you can get a transport and DAC for less.
I'm sure the Yamaha has a digital out so you can upgrade down the road with an external DAC, but then your just using a 3K player just as a transport. A nice transport though! JMO.

So after having my CD-S2100 diagnosed by Sal at Tap Electronics (highly recommended), my unit is absolutely fine. It turns out the source of all my aggravation over the past few months was caused by my new Dell Inspiron laptop. It seems the Dell motherboard architecture is not very compatible with the Steinberg driver needed to stream with the Yamaha.
With new Volti Lucera speakers due to arrive next week, I needed to solve my issue.
I did just that by scoring a new Asus ROG Zephysus laptop. It is an amazing unit and streams perfectly. I got the Asus at Best Buy on sale with a big discount. So happy now!

The latest Yamaha Steinberg driver really improved streaming. No more dropouts lately.

Turns out my dropout issues were all due to streaming with a laptop via wifi.
I took someone's good advice, and got a good streamer...an Aurender N150.
There was never anything wrong with my CD-S2100. Yamaha knows hi-fi.
