Having trouble connecting my Sansui Stereo system

My system consists of:

Sansui AU-919 Integrated Amplifier

Sansui TU-919 Digitally Quartz Tuner

Sansui SE-7 Stereo Graphic Equalizer

JVC XL-M403 Compact Disk Player

Technics M63 Cassette Deck

Technics Quartz SL-1600MK2 Direct Drive Automatic Turntable System

JBL 4311B Control Monitor Speakers

Panasonic TE-972 Audio Timer

I bought most of these from the Navy Exchange catalog in 1980. The cassette deck I bought in Greece at the NATO base while aboard the USS NIMITZ (CVN-68). I bought the speakers from a local audio store in my hometown when I got home on leave and had just unboxed the new equipment that came in from the Navy Exchange.

I had a friend who was a real audio guy and he set it all up for me – System sounded great.

I had marked all the RCA cables with masking tape so I would know where everything went. Unfortunately I lost my friend in car accident and now the labels on the masking tape have faded so bad they can’t be read any longer.

I’ve tried looking online, but no luck finding how to hook this all back up. I can make the Tuner, and Turntable work perfectly, as their hook ups are pretty straight forward. Where I am having trouble is getting the Amp and Equalizer to work with the CD Player and Cassette Deck. Any assistance that I can get would be most appreciated.

Now...this shouldn't be too difficult. Make the following connections
  1. TAPE 1 REC on the amp to INPUT on the EQ
  2. OUTPUT on the EQ to TAPE 1 PLAY on the amp
  3. LINE OUT on the tape deck to TAPE 1 PLAY on the EQ
  4. LINE IN on the tape deck to TAPE 1 REC on the EQ
  5. OUTPUT on the CD player to AUX on the amp
Regarding the timer, it really depends on how you want to use it, but unless you want to make scheduled recordings of FM programs, it's probably best left out.

I assume you've got the speakers hooked up correctly. The only thing that may not be completely obvious is that you should observe the same polarity for both speakers - the red terminals on the amp should go to the red terminals on the speakers, and same for black (it actually doesn't really matter if you do black to red and red to black, as long as both speakers are connected the same way). Speaker wires can be marked in several different ways, including: one conductor may have one or several ridges, there may be printing on one side, there may be a thread inside one wire, or the metal could be a different color (e.g. one copper, one silver).
