Hdcd?

audioguy

Tubes warm my soul!!!
My cd player lights up a dot when an hdcd is played. Weirdly though, one time with the third eye blind, blue cd, only one song lit up, and it's not even a hdcd. Yesterday i played lifehouse, no name face cd and the whole cd lit up as a hdcd and it also is not or at least doesn't say on the jewelcase that it is a hdcd. These are the only two cases so far but i was just wondering why this is doing that. I'm guessing they were either encoded in hdcd but doesn't say on the factory jewelcase or what. I was just wondering. Surprisingly to, that lifehouse cd is a really clean sounding and high quality cd.

Lots of discs that are hdcd encoded don't say so - they were afraid it would hurt sales because people would think they needed an hdcd-equipped player. There's also no reason one track couldn't be encoded when the rest aren't, so that may be the case with your disc.

All the Mannheim Steamroller CD's are now marked HDCD, we brought this up in another thread recently, they do sound sweet, Dave.

HDCD

Alright, thanks guys. I just thought it was odd especially for one song but didn't think something was wrong. I actually thought it was cool. The whole lifehouse cd was hdcd so that was cool. I don't know if any of the other cd's i have are or not.

There are also a number of hybrid SACDs with a CD layer that's HDCD-encoded, yet unmarked either on the packaging nor the discs themselves. The recent reissue of Dire Strait's "Brothers In Arms", on both SACD and DVD-A, marks the first time the entire album has been encoded in HDCD for the CD layer/side.

Here's a SACD that features HDCD on its CD layer....

It appears there's a "new" HDCD using 24 bits. Interesting. I assume it's compatible with regular HDCD decoders.

I have a Sara Evans CD that has the HDCD logo and it doesn't light the HDCD lamp on my Denon universal player. All others do. Wierd....

I have a HDCD of "For The Roses" by Joni Mitchell that "chatters" when played thru several HDCD players. Some players give you the option of defeating the HDCD feature, which is neccesary with this particular disc. Apparently HDCD playback can be "iffy".

The only time I've seen an HDCD indicator light up is when I played an encoded CD on my computer, and the HDCD logo lit up in Windows Media Player! As soon as I can remember which disc it was, I'll post it!

Microsoft owns HDCD.

That much I did know. But I had no clue that WMP v.10 was HDCD-capable until I found a setting buried within my Tools > Options tabs enabling 24-bit sound.

Thank you:) I figured a I'd put up a weird one for most of the days before Christmas and that it was okay for laughs, but one more appropriate for the actual day was called for.
