HDMI - XBOX 360 Gaming Issue

Somehow I did not see a forum that pertained specifically to hdmi and video games, so if there is a better forum and a moderator needs to move it, if you could send me a pm as to where it has gone.

My question is this, my son got a new 22" lcd monitor for his desktop and his xbox. He is running a proprietary cable from a connection on the back of the xbox. This cable has to sets of three component rca jacks on the end opposite the xbox. This is so video can go from xbox to monitor with one set and I assume audio with the other set. Problem is the new lcd monitor only has hdmi input. That would be fine, both cables could be used simultaneously, but the output connection on the back of the xbox for the hdmi and the specialty cable, which is similar to a large hdmi are directly on top of one another and when you plug the proprietary plug into xbox with rca jacks on the other end it covers the hdmi plug in spot on the xbox. Sound will not travel from xbox from normal hdmi 1.3 cable to monitor and there is no way to get sound out to external speakers. Has anyone had this issue?:scratch2:

i dont think theres any way to do it i have a older 22 inch lcd computer monitor and i use the special vga cable and it is at 1650 x 1050 resolution

i think even if you were able to shave down the component plug to plug in the hdmi and the component out it wouldnt work cause they cant work at the same time

you could buy a AV receiver and plug your ext speakers into that then run a wire from the receiver to the monitor thats the only way i see it working or do what i do

when u use hdmi there is a plug from ms available to get optical digital out
then u need a receiver with ac3 input

They dont include the adaptor you need, $50 for an hdmi cable and the adaptor is way too much..

You can just hack the plastic off of the stock one, then the hdmi cable and the bulky one will fit.. set it to the SDTV setting on the switch and it works fine, HDMI for video and RCA for audio.

the only issue is the xbox resets if you change the input on the TV.. but you can cut a wire in the component/rca cable box to get around that if you really want.

Thanks for all the great input. The bulky cable is a vga coming out of the XBOX. It appears to have a possible optical out on the plug that goes into the XBOX. This cable has two sets of three rca jacks on the other end. We were hoping to use a hdmi to go into the lcd monitor and going into the XBOX. So if we can find that hdmi cable with the optical split that would work, but rca jacks would be better because the only receivers with optical inputs are being used elsewhere.

I'm not sure your question. But,
I just don't use the big plug. ALL I use is an HDMI cable. That's it. The HDMI cable is both audio and video.

Sorry, if you know all this and I misunderstood the question.

That works if you want to use the speakers on the monitor, but if you want to use other speakers some sort of adapter is required to get rca connections to go into the receiver.:scratch2:

Is it VGA or not? The plug that goes to the two sets of 3 rca connectors is the standard cable, which you can mod.

One set (the red, green and blue) are the component HD video cables, and the other set with the yellow, white and red is the Audio L/R cables and composite SD video.

If you pop the plastic casing off of it, it will fit in the port for that connection with the hdmi plugged in for video. There is a metal casing underneath, the plastic is just for aesthetics.

Set the HDTV/TV switch to "TV" on the bulky connector, then the HDMI will send video and you can use the RCA Audio cables on your receiver. You can also use the optical out port on the bulky connector if you like.

Like I said, the only problem with this hack is that the xbox resets if you change the video input, which you can fix if you decide to pop open the metal casing on the bulky one to cut a single black wire to disable that.

I have mine working as such currently.

Thanks VintInfinity, I'll give this a shot.:thmbsp:

Is there no audio out on the monitor? Or doesthe monitor just have one cable coming out of it?
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the difference between TV and Monitor.
I also use headphones to game when the roommate is home.
best of luck

I'm receiving video and audio via a Monoprice HDMI cable between my XBOX 360 and Panasonic 34wx54 HDTV. I defeated the Panasonic speakers, running two JSE Infinite Slope Model 1's through my Marantz 2215b. Nice.
