Headless Dual 1237

Just got my first turntable - a Dual 1237 that seems to work, but the tonearm ends in an aluminum stump. No stylus, cartridge, or headshell. Do I have to find a Dual 1237 replacement or is there another model that might interchange?

Even without pictures it sounds like you have two choices. Replace the entire tone arm(you didn't mention seeing wires?). Do you have the ability and patience? Or...part it out and find a working tt. There should be an sm-860 motor in the unit, big demand for them (me included). You could realize $50-100 in parts.....unless whoever decapitated your tone arm played Freddie Kruger with the guts also!

I have the tools and patience to fix it if I can find the parts without busting budget. I got it because it was cheap and I saw some good reviews. Parting out is still an option. I have it apart now but the rest of it is all there.

That will require a transplant won't it?

It's going to take another donor table or parts perhaps from eBay to get it going. Likely you will need to rewire all the way back as the wires sticking out are probably too short to work with. Or you would replace the entire arm. Some of the 12xx series used similar tonearms, or even the same, but I can't with certainty say all of the ones that would work.

I see a 1258 arm on the bay that looks promising. You will also still need a sled or holder for the cartridge but those are fairly easy to come by too. It's just another expense, so I hope that one was very cheap or free.
