headphone extension cable

:music:My listening area is about 14 feet away from my headphone amp and the Grado SR60 has only a 6' cable length. I have read many a review about certain extension cables introducing static/drop-out, or degrading sound quality, so I'm looking to hear from members what they have found to be a cost-effective brand/model of cable extension that won't cost more than the headphones themselves. Thanks...

I use the Grado extension cable - no discernible change in audio quality. It costs $40 but is pretty good quality.

Thanks to all who replied. Looks like Grado may be the best bang4buck for me. We'll see if sound is impacted once they arrive.

extension cable

The one I bought reversed phases. In other words it was wired wrong. I found out when I used it as a second extension and things got dicey. Anything mono was garbled.

I got mine from an eBay seller..heels6. He uses good quality cable and connectors. My 15' extension cable has never given me issues.

I sometimes use two Grado extention cables - still no drop in sound quality. Grado says you can use up to three at a time without affecting sound quality.

Decided to give this brand a try first (instead of the more expensive Grado). I'm happy to report that Planet Waves 10' extension works great. Absolutely no difference in sound quality between just headphone cable or headphone w/ extension. Guaranteed for life, paid $15. Well-constructed with molded termination and gold-plated ends.

Blue Jeans Cable will make you a very nice one at your desired length for a very reasonable price. Sounds great to boot.

That $15 cable looks like a real bargain, and the Grado extensions are widely used by satisfied owners, judging by posts in various forums. Just to offer more choices, though:

If you don't mind spending more and want something really nice, Mogami makes this:

And if you really don't mind spending, there is always this:

I can vouch for the quality of the Mogami extension cable, but have no experience with the DiMarzio (but am curious about it). The Chord company also reputedly makes good ones, but again I have no firsthand experience with them. Their other cables are good, though.

Hope this helps.
