Headphones are Dangerous

I try to keep the volume as low as possible. Take plenty of brakes. And use the tone controls to make things less fatiguing if need be.
I want to get a pair of minimus 7's so I dont have to use my headphones. MY Walsh don't have much in terms of volume control.

My personal experience is that I listen at lower volumes with my Ultrasone HFI 580 phones without feeling the need to Crank 'Em Up. On top of that, they are just fabulous headphones! Your mileage may vary, but I haven't met anyone who has actually tried the Ultrasone cans and not been impressed. There is no electronic hocus pocus, they just position the drivers to utilize your outer ear instead of "beaming" the sound straight into your ear canal. I wouldn't be surprized to see larger companies start doing this. They will probably even create "Research Papers" to take credit for it!
I found out about these from a friend who bought an inexpensive (not cheap though, I think around $95.00) Ultrasone set that I believe is called Zino (or maybe Zinio?) and they are superb for earbud relacement to use with iPods, etc. They are way nicer sounding than any buds I have tried, don't put a "plug" in your ears, and are very light.

I like headphones... except for my Sonys that pretty much suck. I used to have Yamaha YH-1 "orthodynamic" open air cans that sounded good, but one of the cans broke off. :(
 
I no longer use headphones do to the associated problems with hearing damage etc. I don't really like the sound stage they throw anyway.

Yeah, they really have no sound stage... the sound seems to be coming from the center of your head and that's my main complaint about them. But a good set of cans won't harm your hearing at a reasonable volume, compared with speakers.
 
I still DJ in clubs and from time to time I'm at a large open venue. For guys like myself it is very important to hear the music clearly while playing, this isn't easy with all the ambient noise going on i.e the crowd, the main speakers, etc....So a couple of years ago, I headed to my ear specialist and had a set of custom made in-ear monitors that are molded perfectly to the ear canal. I then took it a step further and started using the same muffs that are used in construction and in drag racing together with the in-ear monitors and...viola!....the result was a huge reduction in the outside noise and I no longer needed to have my monitors blasting so loud. I no longer had ringing after a loud event, and as a plus my mixing got better!
