Headphones questions

Hi everyone, i am a sansui lover and i tried many sansui line ex: 661/771/881
au 8500/au9500/ sansui six/ G8000/G5000/G6000/G7500, but something that i have noticed is why some amp when you listen with the headphone we can ear some , (i don't how to describe it) back sound parasite, i wonder if some parts are getting to old and would need to be change or if was made like that in those years. I don't know much about electronic . Thanks if someone can light me a bit. Hi have very good headphones and use them often.

You mean background noise? You will notice it more in a headphone because for all intents and purposes the headphones are direct coupled to your ears (I'm gonna use a FULL CUP HEADPHONE FOR EXAMPLE) in that they seal up any extraneous noise and you hear everything from the headphone vs listening to a speaker in an open air environment and getting other noise interfering with the speaker sounds.

Some amps/Receivers are noisier than others. 70's era amps/receivers are getting noisier daily due to degrading components. Unless the unit has been re-habbed, then they are set back to spec in most cases. At that point some are noisier than others due to design, or quality of components or both.

I've got a 2000A and a Pioneer SX-790 that both have been re-capped. The Pioneer has a slight bit of background noise due to a transistor being noisy. The SANSUI is literally an AUDIO BLACK HOLE! I can crank up the volume to 12-1 oclock, Mode on AUX(no Source) and get absolutely NOTHING! No hiss, no white noise, NOTHING!

It all depends on a lot of things. Age of components, quality of components, have the components been abused, design of the unit, Oh and LAST BUT NOT LEAST! Your hearing ability! Younger ears are more sensitive to higher frequencies, where most of the "background noise" is.

Thanks Larry, very good informations it makes sense and like you say it is logical to think that after all these years some components might need to be replaced or ajusted and cleaned, but right now i do have a sansui G 801 and it has more background noise compare to my other sansui 771 which as nothing. Anyway thanks again appreciate your help,,Tall
