I originally posted this thread in the Pioneer forum. If re-posting in this forum violates AK guidelines I do apologize.

I'm currently running a Shure M97xE on my PL-9 and I'm quite happy with it. I would like to pick up a spare headshell to install an alternate cartridge just to change things up. Can anyone suggest a good source? (Pioneer does not have em in stock.) Thanks.

Beej,
If it doesn't have to say 'Pioneer' on it, MCM Electronics
has some, the catalog says it's made out of black plastic, but I got one a while ago and it's black aluminum. It fits fine in my PL-A35.
www.lpgear.com has some universal ones as well, but I have no experience with them.

Thanks Tom. The 'universal' headshells I've seen on several sites do not have the same connection configuration as the original headshell. I'll check out MCM and get back to you.

Beej, they were proprietary to Pioneer and used only on that particular series, so consequently very hard to find. Just keep an eye out on ebay.

Are the headshells for this series interchangeable PL-2 through PL-9? If so, it'll help broaden the search. Thanks.

And the search concluded for now. My son and daughter (both grown) and my wife all say I'm impossible to buy for (Holidays and birthday). Solved two problems at once: Pioneer PL-7 parts unit on ebay. Emailed the link to my daughter and the parts unit arrived yesterday as a birthday gift. Already cannibalized the headshell, cueing adjustment access plug and M95HE cart (stylus is toast). Now (on another thread) in search of the right alternative cart to my M97xE.
