Hearing Loss a Predictor of Dementia

Glad somewhere is sloping up. :)

To the OPs point tho, it makes sense that decreased mental stimulation would affect mental health.
One possible conclusion is that TV is the primary cause of mental impairment.

FWIW, I recently got HAs to assist w high frequency hearing loss.
It does make a world of difference & when I take them out it like listening to everything thru a pillow.

My mother has advanced dementia and there may be some truth to hearing impairment can lead to quicker advancement of dementia. My mom previously worked in a glass container (i.e. baby food containers, glass bottles, etc.) factory and when she retired, she had noticeable hearing loss. While she did get hearing aids, she never wanted to use them. She was able to carry on a normal conversation without the use of the hearing aids. I don't think her partial hearing loss affected the advancement of dementia in her, but I can see it affecting others. When battling the onset of dementia, do whatever you can to slow down its progress. My mom is 80 years this year and she looks great and is in good physical health. However, there's almost nothing mentally left in her.

Hmmm - my gran did well into the 80s, but once her vision degraded,
THATS when she slipped out of reality and started into dementia big time ...
Granma loosing her facilities really affected the positive outlook of my mom -
Its just tough all around when you see your loved ones drift away like that.

Frustrating to not be able to help. There are some things we just can't fix.
I was lucky in that my Mom & Dad were mostly fine until very near the end.
