Hearing to only 12khz. More of a problem than you think?

One ear is worse than the other. Fireworks incident when I was about 15. Other than that, only 1 or 2 concerts where my ears were ringing afterwards, again when I was younger. My right ear is good to 13K or so. Left gives it up at 10.5 or 11K. I've had ringing in my ears as long as I can rememeber but I only notice it if its quiet and I listen for it. Just turned 64.

Why should it stop them? sound is not that simple, I am not supposed to be able to hear my super tweeters, but I can.

I had a tv that made a high pitched noise when it was on others could hear but I couldn't. It doesn't mean that i wouldn't be able to hear it if it was louder. I can hear things that young fresh ears don't :dunno:

I'm not surprised, the lowest frequency of super tweeters is usually well within the audible range & can be measured. I also think it's how they disperse the soundwave so the perception changes. I would only be suspect if you could hear "noise" that can't be measured.

My unassisted hearing starts to dive ca 4k and tops out ca 8k on a good day. 12k would be my dog whistle threshold.
Hearing aids were definitely a quality of life upgrade, and surprisingly they continue to improve with subsequent models.
