I just bought a Heathkit AA-121 on eBay for $200 shipped. The guy said that he "plugged it in, 15 seconds later saw smoke and turned it off". The pictures do not show tubes, but who knows if it had them when he tested it. I have an extra output transformer for this amp, so as long as both aren't blown, I should be okay. Any thoughts on what this could have been? Apparently he looked around the back after turning it off and saw that the fuse was missing altogether (this is confusing and concerning).
I downloaded a schematic and service manual, but for all of you who have restored these particular amps, what should I be looking out for? Any common issues? And for that matter, any changes that should be made (capacitance, etc)?
Thanks, I've been trying to gather as much information as I can about this amp, and it seems that it wasn't as popular as some of Heathkit's other models.
