Heathkit AS-41W with Jensen Drivers

Hey gang,

I have a pair of these where one of the Jensen drivers was replaced with a Radio Shack driver. Hoping to get another Jensen to replace the Rat Shack and make the pair matching again. I have a question about the Heathkit cabs though. Were the cabs constructed with any regard to the driver specs? There are a total of six "ports" in the back and the drivers look huge for the cabinet volume. Any info on these cool little speakers would be appreciated!

It looks like a car radio 6 x 9 to me, Jensen made millions of those! Here's a blurb with specs from the 1969 Heathkit catalog. Good reading in those old publications. I have no idea if there was any thought given to cabinet size except to stick it in a box to give it some/any resonance.

Thanks for the info! I may just experiment with different damping and rear baffles to see if anything sounds decent!

I had a friend who had something similar in 1968 or 1969, it was a plain wood box with a 6 x 9 in it and some kind of grill cloth on it, no insulation, etc. Looking back, it could have been exactly what you have there. It sounded great to my youthful ears (I was about 19 or 20). I imagine a bit of insulation on the interior surfaces might soften things a little.
