Hi all, been a while since I posted, so greetings and good wishes to everyone out there!
I've got a single Heathkit SS-1B "range extender" (add-on to the SS-1, providing extended lows and highs).
Had it for years since I acquired it from someone in the area, who was cleaning out his basement.
A few months ago, I tried for the first time to fire this thing up, hooked into an amp and an SS-1 speaker.
The P15LS and RP302s drivers seem good - each works if connected independently. But the crossover is degraded and is not passing sound consistently to the supertweeter (it occasionally kicks in but only unpredictably and briefly).
The original SS-1B crossover is said to be excessively complicated. I'm no expert on crossovers and not a DIY audio person. I can't help wondering: is there some other off-the-shelf crossover that I could use to get this "range extender" to extend the range of an SS-1 in a mono setup? Maybe something that occasionally gets parted out from some other, less collectable 3-way speaker?
I'm aware of the other threads here and here about the SS-1B (and the SS-1/SS-1B combo), but I thought a new thread might be suitable for my question. Thanks for the eyeballs!
Nick
