Heathkit W5M - I can’t win…..

The correct primary resistance for the 16309 is right around 320 ohms each side of the center tap. +/- a few ohms.

The 16309 were lighter duty. The core is smaller and the primary wire smaller than the 16458. As such the 16309 tended to be failure prone.

I have a lone 16309 that I’d like a mate for. I’ve been thinking of building a nice 6BQ5 amp and these would work well for that.
I also have 3 16458’s two are destined for another project.

If your 16309 is good maybe we can make a deal?

Ron

What’s the condition of the 16458 you have? I need one in clean shape as the one I have is rather clean.

We should move this to PM so that we don’t get in trouble with the site.

It’s a little to late for me to pull out the amp and take some measurements but I should have some time this week or this weekend. I can measure the 16309 I have and send you a pic.

what sort of impedance are they? A 6bq5 would certainly pull less current than the KT66 so a lighter duty transformer would be happier with that aspect

The chassis on the 16458 version is slightly different by I'm not sure it would keep you from using the earlier xformer.
As I recall, there was a screw through the chassis under the xformer that was countersunk because the base of the xformer covered the screw head .
Peace,
