Welcome and good move in keeping the 2275. It'll be great whether you keep it or give it back to your Dad.
 
Things happen, sometime through Devine intervention. That “mistake” dual turntable delivery just might have launched a love of all things music - that took you in directions in your life that would have never happened otherwise. Welcome to AK!

Never thought about it like that. But you are absolutely right. I would have never gotten into DJing if that other turntable wasn’t in closet.

I went to my dad's house and got the 2275 that was sitting in his garage on a shelf. I showed it to the guy buying the turntable. He was all over me to sell it to him. I was tempted. It had not been used since about 1990. But I kept it. I googled 2275 and stumbled onto the wonder world of restoring these incredible receivers. So that is what I am doing. The information here is invaluable.

My dad is still around and I asked him yesterday why he chose a Marantz back in 1977. He stated that he bought the entire system at Macy's. (Yeah that Macy's). He said it sounded great back then and he made the purchase. My dad is 76 today.

Side note. Back then, you went to the department store and the items were delivered by truck a week or two later. The system he purchased was delivered as usual. About a week after that, another Macy's delivery truck showed up with another 2275 and speakers. My dad told the delivery man that his system had already been delivered. The truck driver said, "I'm just the delivery guy, the paperwork says its yours." My dad was given another 2275 with speakers. He says he sold that system to a friend. The next week, a delivery truck pulled up with the 6100 turntable. For whatever reason, dad kept that turntable. It sat in new in the box for 5 years. This was one of the main reasons I started DJing. I did not have to buy turntables. My first DJ system was two 6100 turntables, a 2275, and the SP12s.

The plan now is to restore the 2275, and try to find a 6100 and a pair of SP12's..... and give it back to dad. I figure that is the least I can do since I basically raided his Marantz system to become a DJ.

That’s so cool, my friend had a similar story where his dad bought an expensive pair of Martin Logan’s, but somehow ended up only paying for one of the two speakers so like 2k instead of 4K....
