New to AK, but a long time music / gadget fan. I had an ok system before kids (Yamaha turntable, Kenwood receiver, Jensen speakers), but my oldest son like to "dance" in front of the turntable; the arm bounced across the LP's as he bounced across the floor. Life went on, more kids and less $$$, and the system eventually went to someone who could use it more than we were.
Kids grown, I recently inherited some equipment, all fairly low end but good enough to let me begin collecting again; 80's era Technics turntable, JVC cassette deck, Harmon Kardon CD player, Onkyo receiver and Bose speakers. I've once again begun buying vinyl, cd's and cassettes (mostly from thrift shops, but occasionally on eBay or CL). As I mentioned, I'm also a big fan of gadgets, so I have a couple 'vintage' cassette Walkmans (Sony WM-F1 being my favorite at this point), a few old portable cd players (Sony D-2 in use now), several iPods (all "Classics") and two mini disc player/recorders (Sharp MD-MS702 that I record on, and a Sony MZ-R70 that I listen to when I walk...great battery life on a single AA)
Fan of classic rock, hard bop jazz, and almost anything that catches my ear. Uriah Heep, Stones, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Coltrane, Hank Mobley, Red Garland, Lee Morgan...you get the idea.
Sorry for verbosity. Looking forward to enjoying discussions about music and gear!
