Hi everybody,
Laurent, from France here.
I'm the happy owner of a Realistic sta-850 which I know isn't what we can call a high-end amplifier, but I like the sound that goes out of this 40-year-old piece of electronics.
Realistic amplifiers are quite rare in France, and it's hard to find any information or spares when these things stop working, so I've decided it was time to enter this forum.
I'm eager to learn from your experience and expertise.

Spent some holidays in the Ile d'Oléron as a child.
Returned there a couple of years ago, and the island is still a preserved land full of nature, insects and birds.
And a great place to spend a holiday.

Probably the best way to start is to assemble documentation on the amplifier. I noticed that another member here has the schematic of this model and is offering to share it. Here is the post and you might want to take up his offer.

Realistic STA-850 Schematic

Hello Audiokarma Fam, I'm trying to locate a schematic of the STA-850. I found one on https://www.samswebsite.com/en/photofact/details/index/id/146331 for $22, but figured I'd see if anyone here had a good copy before I have to pay for one. Thanks for the help!! Also side note does anyone know...

Should you notice a deterioration in performance, the general approach is to measure voltages throughout the unit and compare values found to those originally specified (and displayed) on the schematic. Out of spec voltages can be traced to specific component deterioration, which can then be replaced. A competent tech can apply their skills once they have the schematic. Many people here do it themselves and discuss their findings (in posts) and solicit analysis - from other members.

The only risk with maintaining older electronics is that, sometimes, replacements for individual components can not be located. You might want to determine if there are any known supply limitations on your unit.

Finally, sometimes corrosion can build up on the contact points of the switches. This can be addressed with 'DeOxit' (brand name contact cleaner). There are a variety of posts on how to treat noisy contacts (search deoxit in AK).
