Hello from Canada

Hi,

I am new here and was referred to this site by some members of the Classic & Vintage section of Bikeforums.net.

I am an "accidental" audiophile as I was recently given some vintage gear from my Father in-law who is moving into a smaller place and wanted me to have some of his toys.

After doing a little research online and getting some encouraging info from the BF crew I am excited to pick up this gear (this weekend!) and getting it set up.

My FIL had it set up as a "quad" system but I will probably go with stereo.

- Bose 4401 4 Channel Preamp
- Mcintosh 2120 Amp
- Mcintosh 2125 Amp
- AR3a Improved Speakers
- B&W DM7 Speakers
- MK Subwoofer
- Denon DP-755 TT
- Transcriptors Skeleton TT (with Vestigial arm)
- Yamaha T-300 Tuner
- Sony XA20ES CD
- Nakamichi BX 300 Deck
- Sansui 4 Channel decoder and some other pieces that I didn't pay attention to.
- 500+ LPs, many audiophile, classic, jazz etc.

I want to keep it simple and am planning to set up one TT, one amp, preamp
and a pair of speakers although last night I had the thought that maybe I could use the amps as monoblocks with the Bose preamp. Would either of these speaker sets be able to handle that at reasonable levels?

Thanks!

Rather nice dowery. Now you'll have to marry his duaghter. He was into audio in a rather serious way to have that gear in a quadrophonic system.

Take your time setting up the Transcriptors, it is a challenge but once done correctly it is a very good table. Always had a soft spot for it.

Where in Canada are you. You may want ot add it to the location field in your profile.

Welcome to the nut house from Toronto.

Hello Canada! How do you like that socialized health care up there? ... and what about that Neil Young?

I think it may be a REWARD for already being 20 years in!!

Yes, I have heard about the Transcriptors set-up, no rush, I will take my time, it sure is great looking, I hope it sounds good.

Vancouver, I will add that.

A hot topic item south of the 49th, but honestly, growing up here (52 years) with it, I can't imagine it differently.

Neils asleep on the couch, I'll say "hi" from you when he wakes up! :D

Cheers!

Funny you mention that, the days of the National Health are coming to an end here in the UK.

I've been in the hospital since January 18th and had 2 surgeries with 2 more to go. When I walk out, virtually not a loonie will I owe. Finally got a return on my tax investment that directly benefits me.

If I were back in Florida. I'd be employing my brother, a bankruptcy attorney.

However, as predicted decades ago, most countries with a form of governmental health care, would become unable to support it ongoing. Here, the challenge is raising its head and there are cracks starting to show. As for the new health care system in the US, the public is getting a royal shafting; the insurance companies are the only benefactors in the end. Socialized medicine systems can really only be effective in a socialistic system and though some would argue the opposite, the US is not a socialistic country though, it has moved closer of it as it moves from its original envisioned beginning in 1776.
