Hello AKers,
I must confess this site has been a source of information for the past two years at least. I will finally introduce myself. I picked up the audiophile bug about 10 years ago after listening to a co workers Thiel 2.2 and VTL system back in Fort Worth. I then connected with the DFW DIY group and I have been on this audiophile journey ever since. I have gone from SET tube, high efficiency speakers to my current system which consists of NAD 2700THX monoblock bridged to 400 watts amps into my 4 ohm KEF 107 speakers. I fully restored the KEF 107's with a complete refoam and recap of the entire speaker. Even did the ferro fluid tweeter refill. All done with the assistance of this site.
I am using a homemade chinese kit based remote controlled ALPS potentiometer based passive preamp. Love the ability to remotely switch 4 inputs and maintain as little in the signal path as possible on a budget. The system is complete magic, many sleepless nights cycling through LPs, CDs, Hi-Res tracks. I know it's not the best system in the world but I am finally happy, but still looking into the next project, maybe LDR or Pass B1 buffer based preamp.
BTW sources are:
OPPO oppo dv-970 as transport
Cambridge Audio Dacmagic (USB, SPDIF)
Rotel RB-830 Turntable (Shure V-15 Type IV)
Marantz AV7002 preprocessor (surround, Airplay, Streaming options)
NAD 1300 (amazing phono preamp)
