I am a contractor for the Navy here in Guantanamo Bay. I fix planes for a living. It sounds like fun but most days it's just boring. I found this forum through diyaudio.com. I'm more of a diy guy, but older tube stuff is what I really like. The only vintage stuff I own is an old Admiral AM radio record player combo. It still works even after sitting for many years. It's back in Savannah in my house. I hope I'll be able to contribute somehow to this forum.

This site is a great reference site and the more you stop by the wiser you will get to the many subjects covered here, but there is more to it than that, here at AK there exists a collective conciseness bent on preserving the past while exploring the future.

Welcome. Your situation raises an interesting point; as I understand it Cuba is full of old pre-Castro US cars being kept running by enterprising Cubans.

IF the US should lift travel bans to Cuba at some point in the future, wonder if we will find there are a bunch of old Pre-Castro radios being kept in operation there?

As Castro came to power at the end of 1959 it's not likely there would be much in the way of stereo gear, but old Atwater Kents, etc?

Maybe....
 
Welcome to the forum! When I worked for the Navy, I spent many a days around the Atlantic Fleet test area off of Puerto Rico with operational testing (OT). The biggest was the Arleigh Burke OT. Those were the days.................
