Hi There


My name is Logan and I am new to the AK Forums.
I have a love with vintage audio that all started 6 years ago when I came across a NZ assembled vintage Pye Prolab, when I was a year 9 student at Lynnfield College in AKL NZ, and belonged to the Electronics Club that ran within the college during lunchtimes. Over half that stereo is now long gone with a few bits in my cupboard from when it was throwen into the skip a year ago.
I have a fascination with all NZ made Vintage audio especially the beautiful sounding Pye Prolabs. I look forward to getting to know the forum and the people on it

My sister had an Akai Pro-Lab in the early eighties and I thought it was cool.
You have to watch out on Audio Karma because there are so many Australians, but theyre all good blokes so far.........:thmbsp:

If you have a fascination with New Zealand branded HiFi of old you may want to chase up some old Fountain amps, they had some tube amps in the 60's and some 3in1 systems in the 70's which were cool.

I believe PYE was indeed Australian...............just like the Pavalova?? :lmao:
But seriously it was indeed and Australian brand.

Many brands including Akai, Technics, phillips, National Panasonic were assembled in New Zealand in the 70's and 80's by Allied Industries which I think was a part of Fisher and Paykel, I had a Technics receiver from the eighties which was assembled in NZ, it was legend but it had to go to make way for the Sansuis.
The ProLabs were exclusive to New Zealand, I think you will find.

Some other New Zealander may chime in with the real story with the local assembly plant story but I think I am mostly correct.
