I am a prodigal son who has only just returned to vinyl after many years wandering the digital wastelands. I spent so much time listening to MP3s on earbuds and tinny little speakers that I forgot many of the things I love about my favorite music. In an attempt to rekindle my love of music I recently assembled an old-school audio system, consisting of a Marantz 6100 turntable, 2238B receiver, and a pair of series V Bose 901 speakers (don't judge me). After a lot of repairing and fiddling the system sounds great and I find myself, for the first time in years, sitting around in the evenings listening to records. I love the way the sound fills and engages the entire room. Everything from Arthur Schnabel playing Schubert to Black Sabbath vol. 4 now sounds richer, deeper, and clearer and I hear nuances that I haven't heard for years in recorded music.
