Hello from SW Montana

Just joined & this is 1st post. I'm a retired project manager from the O&G industry and I live alone in a remote part of SW Montana. I was looking for an interesting indoor hobby to help the boredom of a long Montana winter and decided to get back into audio or "vintage" audio as it's called now, lol.

I picked up a Dual 1229 turntable from eBay and it looks like it needs a good bit of TLC, so I hope to find some helpful threads on here. Problems I'm aware of are:

Base/plinth & cover are destroyed (they arrived in 4-5 pieces)

Tone arm cue doesn't lift high enough and knurled collar on lift piston is loose & won't tighten

Start sometimes doesn't work and tonearm doesn't lift correctly, or position correctly over platter

I'm sure I'll find more as I dig into this project.

Thanks everyone, this seems like a friendly place so I'll plan to stick around!

p.s. Yes HK, I knew the Duals came from the little town in the Black Forest, very near the little town that builds cuckoo clocks. Apparently there was some cross sharing of technology :)

I've done a brief search for a new plinth & cover but came up dry. Could someone kindly point me in the right direction for a supplier?

Hi John, welcome to AK! You will probably have better luck
posting your questions in the turntable forum.

Thanks ESP, I had a peek there but it seemed the folks that used to build/provide them have fallen away. But I'll post a new thread & see what happens.
