Hello from up North

From Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Over the past year or two I've
- rediscovered my old late 80's Sony Walkman and 3 for a dollar Goodwill cassettes
- before fixing the buzz in my Walkman bought a mid 90s tape deck which coincidentally is what would have been in stores when I bought my Yamaha receiver in '94
- decided to replace my Citizen early 90s turntable which I inherited from an old roommate. Up until recently I only had 50 cent flea market vinyl mostly bought to amuse people that I had records, but then I acquired some brand new vinyl and decided I didn't want to use a 20 yr old stylus on them so I got a cheap audio technica cartridge and stylus. Then because it started having technical issues, and once I learned that the fact the tone arm balance weight was just a hollow piece of plastic shaped like a weight (no adjustment) I decided a new turntable was in order
- funnily I stumbled upon this forum searching for info on the new turntable I bought (Sony PS-X600) and found a thread on it started by the gentleman I bought it from

Now I'm just trying to decide how cassette tape, vinyl, cds, and digital streaming are going to fit together in my life.

I think that your in the right place. We are all trying to do the same thing.
Welcome to the AK.

At the moment its:
- Random 3 for a dollar cassette tapes that I find at Goodwill that I really like are staying in that format, played on my walkman or my yamaha deck.(I probably only keep 1 in 3)
- CDs which I already have are remaining as CDs for now, played on my discman or sony 5 disc changer (I do like the booklets in cds)
- Vinyl will mostly be pre-1980s albums, other than specific newer ones which have significantly better dynamic range than digital
- Digital streaming mostly to just explore

Honestly though in the back of my mind I know streaming/digital download including digital recordings of vinyl plays would cover all of that.

BUT, I find Goodwill cd and tape racks, and local record store bargain hallway a more fun and random way to discover music than browsing an app.
