Hello everyone just saying hello. I'm a guitar tutor, do a little composing for TV & indie films, family man and I feel by this stage in my life I should be better at fixing audio gear so I'm here to learn and maybe even contribute. Currently trying to fix / improve my Dad's old hifi I have inherited :)

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone. @Mr Bill My dad's HiFi is a Michell Focus One TT circa 1985 and a pair of Tannoy M20 speakers from the same era. Both have issues however I am looking at the TT first. There is a slightly annoying hum. My suspicion is it's a ground loop likely from the tone arm or perhaps a bad connection on the final ground wire to the spade connector. Do you have any experience with the Focus One TT? I have read with interest most of the Focus One posts on here. Looks like 1 chap fully reassembled one. I have replied to that post to see if I can speak to him :)

Thanks @Quadman2 I will do. Hifi wise nothing special - the Michell Focus One TT, Tannoy M2 speakers, Marantz PM6007 amp and I have my Dads old M20 which need fixed.

My studio monitors are a little more interesting - the very neutral & revealing Amphion One 18s with matching amplifier.

Hello again Vinylrecord9 No I do not have any experience with that TT. just a little experience here with TT's . I find TT's much too time consuming trying to get them going right and all the required maintenance involved. Plus LP's are way too expensive now and CD's cheaper. I have one to restore and a box full of cartridges salvaged from old TT's 20 years or more ago at recycle centers and dumps here in the Northeast USA. This will give me an LP source if I ever get time to restore it. I had a nice one ( to me) I gave to my son that I recorded all of my albums with - to CD's ( about 1200 ) That took me about 3 years or so every evening. I find it much easier and less damaging to the source material to just use CD's. When I did this I sent the source material from LP to a great sound card on an old Windows 7 or 8 desktop computer using a program called Magix, and used a nice Luxman receivers' preamp with RIAA equalization to do so. I made 2 CD's of each record LP. One as a master and one as a daily player. ( Of course I don't play all of my CD's daily). So now I am pretty much just playing CD's only. So I think you need someone else to help you - not me. I know the connections used for the cartridges sometimes cause issues along with chaffed wires running down the tonearm on many TT's. Also listen to the motor itself it may have loose windings in the motor causing issues. GOOD LUCK and again WELCOME TO AK !
Mr. Bill
