Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and expect to be spending a bit of time here as I'm a new to the home audio thing......

I've recently picked up an old Realistic turntable and a Realistic STA-2100D receiver from one of those Bidopia type auctions. I hope to get up and running some time soon. Turntable turns on but I'm thinking the receiver needs fixing (seems to power up, clicks away, but no illumination). Fist I need some speakers....

Welcome to AK! Anyplace is good place to start, and I'm sure you'll find all the help you need to get your kit up to snuff! Speakers are good! Don't go nuts yet, make a list: Source / Amplification / Speakers

Get something that will allow you to vet your source and amp for cheap.
Once they're up and running it's an iterative process upgrading the weak link.

You have come to the right place as far as learning about audio, a great group of members with wealth of knowledge so don't be afraid to ask. I learned a long time agao that the dumbest question is the one that is never asked.

I agree with DNSK, don't go nuts on speakers. I assume this setup is temporary. When looking for speakers, think ahead to your permanent system. This way you can save money by buying smart the first time instead of buying now and then next year, etc.

Another piece of advice... DO NOT go into debt buying your audio system. You don't have to spend a year's salary to get a good audio system.

I hope you will participate and post often. One more thing I may add, this group are pic hounds as they love pics.

Welcome to the forum! You are off to a good start with the Realistic gear - probably just needs some cleaning and TLC....
