I recently acquired a Sansui 2000x and now I need to find speakers. I am going with a vintage system mostly for aesthetics, but also because I’m hoping it sounds amazing for my budget and its exciting as a new hobby. I don’t have much experience with audio, and am a total newbie trying to get started. I am prepared to try different things if my first set up doesn’t work, but I’m hoping some of you may be able to tell me if I am going in the complete wrong direction. I hope to find decent speakers that do not require a subwoofer.
Here are some details:
Budget - - - $100 - $200
Room - - - It’s a 12’ x 21’ room and the ceiling height is about 7.5’ in half of the room and in the other half it slants up from 7’ to 11’. The floors are wood with a 5x7' area rug, the ceiling is wooden slats.
Music - - - Blues, bluegrass, classic rock, folk, classical, jazz
Volume - - - About 90% of the time I’ll mostly be listening at low volumes just within this room. Might want to crank it up louder 10% of the time. In the warmer months, I also may want the music to reach the patio just outside this room, if possible (benefit, not requirement). There are two big windows going out to the patio.
Placement - - - They will most likely be 2-3’ from a wall (or corner) due to the flow of traffic in the room. I can place them at any height necessary.

I like the Advent/3 speakers for size and looks, and seems like they perform well based on my research. The AR4X or KLH models also stood out to me, but I am really unsure if those are too big for my room. I feel a little in over my head but it is still fun trying to figure it out. Any suggestions about how much speaker is too much for what I need, or where a good starting point is would be greatly appreciated!
Locally, there is a pair of Advent/3 speakers available for $65 with a beat up case. There’s a couple better looking on eBay for $160 shipping included.
Or there is a pair of AR4X available locally for $180 that are pristine.
Thanks so much for anyone who feels like helping me out!
