Help! Can’t get my turntable and EQ to work together

Just picked up this stack and am having issues hooking up my eq...

if I plug my tt into the line in of the eq then eq into the phono on my amp the eq will work but I get a bad hum if I put my dial any higher than 2. I found a diagram that shows the eq line in going to rec out on tape 1 and eq line out going to playback. This gets rid of the hum but eq doesn’t register on tt, cadette or CD.
I’ve attached a few pictures of my setup, you can’t really see what’s going on in the back pictures, they’re more just for reference.
Not sure what else to do...

Ya have to connect it per the diagram, then be sure you have the tape monitor/tape 1 engaged on the receiver plus whatever source you want to play has to be selected too. As well, be sure the tape monitor on the EQ is NOT engaged.

As soon as press tape 1 with phono playing the sound cuts off. Tape isn’t engaged on the eq...

I see that you have a tape deck on the Tape 2/EXT loop. Playback only. What happens if you hook up the EQ to that instead of Tape 1 and then hit the Tape 2 button? Curious. Also you don't have Tape 2 engaged do you?

An EQ isn't suitable to take the signal from the turntable. The turntable must go through a phono preamp first, so plug the turntable into the phono input of the amp.
To get the signal out to the EQ, connect the "TAPE 2 REC OUT" sockets to the inputs of the EQ. Obviously, what is sent out through those sockets depends on what you select on the front panel of the amp.
To get the EQ'd signal back into the amp connect the EQ outputs to the "TAPE 2 PLAYBACK" sockets. To hear the EQ'd signal you will have to select whatever button/switch/knob is required on the front panel of the amp to listen to TAPE 2.

Is it? I picked tape 2 at random and was going to say in my earlier reply that it doesn't matter which tape loop is chosen. Glad I didn't

I presume so since it sounded like Tape 1 didn't work as monitor. Ran into this a while back in a different thread where a receiver had Tape 1 and Tape 2, but only Tape 2 was a true monitor circuit.

w99, Andrew: Kind of confusing in this case, as the SU-Z760 (alias SU-V76) actually has a "tape mon" inscription over/between both tape buttons, from which one could expect both tape loops to have a monitoring function. However, one could just as well suspect, that, due to being part of a rack system, the first tape loop of the SU-Z760 was meant to be used with the double cassette deck, that was part of that system (RS-T11, maybe?) - and as the recording deck of that doesn't sport three heads, maybe they didn't include a monitoring function for that tape loop. But unfortunately I couldn't dig up a free user or service manual for that amp to confirm that suspicion.
