Help connecting turntable to Pioneer VSX-09TX

I picked up some amazing sounding Paradigm studio 60 speakers and a Pioneer VSX-09TX today. I'm trying to hook up my B&O beogram rx2 turntable. It should be simple. There is a phono in, so I just plugged it in and grounded, but I got no sound out of the speakers. Not a hum or anything. I then used a preamp and plugged it into the CD input and then the tape input. I know the CD input is good. Still no sound. I went back and connected it to the old setup. It worked fine. I'm not familiar with the new receiver. I hope I'm missing something simple and someone here more knowledgeable can help me out. I really want to hear my records through those new speakers!

Did you get a manual with it?
That would probably help. Looks like there are a few places to download it for free.
Any chance you could hook up your new speakers to your old system? Just in the meantime?

Thanks Bucky. I should have thought of that first. I'm downloading one right now.
 
Well I would have said the phono section isn't working on the VSX, but if you ran it thru a preamp and into the CD input it should work. Unless the CD input is also borked.

I have a Denon HT receiver and if you don't use some of the inputs for a long time, the relay contacts can get oxidized and not make contact. If yours is relay controlled instead of physical switches or buttons, that could be the problem. Try different inputs - does it have a tape in, TV/VCR input, etc.? [Edit - I see you tried that already.]

Are you sure the phono pre you used was turned on, correct input selected etc.?
 
^^ I had the same thought, but he said the CD input on the VSX was good, so that means the unit is putting out to the speakers, so unless those jumpers got removed at some point after that, it should be working.
 
Look out for a Mute button somewhere, or tape monitor buttons/switches. Sometimes things get switched by accident when you move the unit around to change cables in back.
