Help finding a replacement speaker on a older infinity rs625

Hello all!

My pops gave me his older pair of rs625 that I he had during my entire childhood. Long story short I love them and one of the top active woofers needs to be replaced. I have tried to find a replacement but have had no luck yet. Also I've seen something about a phase plug? And I have no idea what that does or what I need to change when I get a new woofer. Thanks all!

Does the woofer itself have any numbers stamped on the back? That's the way to make sure you've found a correct replacement.

What happened to the one that's there? No sound, funny noises...?

A phase plug is shaped like the nose cone of a rocket and is stuck in the middle of a speaker driver to improve the performance at certain frequencies. Looks like this woofer has one, and if you get a correct replacement woofer it should have one too (that is, if the original is not actually repairable).
 
The RS625 speakers and woofers are fairly rare. But they do pop up on eBay occasionally. Just keep a close eye out, with available funds, and buy asap.

Also, Infinity made several series of speakers with very similar woofers. I believe the CS series and the Sterling series 8" woofers would match, but without the phase plug. The 625 used an 8" injected molded graphite woofer, with an integrated phase plug. A none phase plug woofer would work in a pinch, if that's all that can be found. Be careful though, that same woofer had 4 Ohm and 8 Ohm versions. But the correct version for your speakers.

Finally, the top woofer is the only active woofer, in the 625's. The lower 3 are passive radiators. The foam surrounds held up much better on the passives. The surrounds on the active woofer would probably need to be replaced by now. If that's all thats wrong with the woofer, that's easily repaired. Do both at the same time. Rick Cobb is a good source for the correct surrounds. He's looneytoon2001 on eBay.

Oh yea, the Infinity CS line, is the Infinity Crescendo series. Plus, check the Reference series too, as they use IMG woofers as well.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. I haven't taken the woofer out yet but will do that tomorrow. The woofer has no sound but there is a copper wire hanging out of the phase plug which I am assuming is coming from a coil inside the speaker. Anyway to fix that issue without buying another woofer? The rubber was redone I'd say around 5-8 years ago so I believe it is still good.
 
copper wire is hanging out the dustcover/phase plug hole? that ain't good.

I love the sound of my rs 525, but wish they'd put an emit tweeter with it.... Now they sit in a closet (fully refoamed).
 
It sounds like a broken voice coil wire. If it is a broken voice coil, that could be hard to fix. It just depends on where the break is? You might be better off sending the woofer out for repair. As always, I recommend Bill LeGall at Millersound. Bill's the best, and an Infinity expert as well. Cheap. Give him a call.
