Help! Fuses!

I need to put some new fuses in my amplifier and I don't know much about it so I will tell you what it says...

"Speaker Circuit Protection Fuses

5A

Caution: Be sure to replace with a 5amp. 125v spare fuse (XBAS1A5001) only. Unplug the power supply cord before changing fuse."


Now... I know it needs to be 5A but should It be fast or slow blow??? I have some 5A 250v fuses... I didn't even know u could get them in other volts?

Will radio shack (circuit city) have 125v fuses?

so my questions are as follows

1. Slow or fast blow?

2. 125v's?

3. In the caution on my amp what does the number mean? (XBAS1A5001)

4. Are there other fuses on the inside of my amp, or are these 2 fuses the only ones in it? (these ones are on the back btw)

I don't know for sure about fast blow or slow blow on speakers, I'd suspect slow blow as you're trying to protect against the "program" level which will overheat driver windings, but it takes seconds/minutes to do so. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong here.

250v is fine, that's the max rating for what it will handle, which means you could use it on a 220v circuit. Does no harm to use it on 125v circuits. For that matter, speakers never see even 125V anyway.

The number is probably a part number for the original fuse from the amp manufacturer. No reason you have to use that. Any fuse w/the right ratings will do.

We don't know what your amp is, so it's hard to say whether there are more fuses inside. Possibly.
 
Thanks mate! Just 2 questions left that need answering. My amp is a Technics SU-8077.

1. Slow blow or fast?

2. Are there other fuses on the inside of my amp, or are these 2 fuses the only ones in it? (these ones are on the back btw)
 
As stated, 250v is fine. I'd go with fast blow.
Can't say about the inside of your amp. That long number is probably technics part number.
 
Does the fuse you took out say "slow-blo"? The majority of fuses you'll find in audio gear are fast blo. Here's a thread for you to look at, maybe it'll help.
 
Well, know one asked the critical question - are these fuses for the AMP or for the Speakers?

An amp can probably handle a slow blow, but I don't think the speakers will.

So -

Amp - fast or slow

Speakers - fast

The fuse itself should have some numbers on it, and those numbers will probably help you determine the correct replacement.

Just a thought.

speaker protect---Fast!! 5A @ 120 or 250 either will do fine.
 
It is for the amp... and the fuses previously in there were incorrect. So I will have to exchange these slow blows I got for some fasts! thanks guys
