Help! Grundig Mandello console radio record player

Hi there
I have nooooo experience with fixing audio equipment but I live in Iceland and have no helpful places to go for help so I found this site!

I have a Grundig Mandello which has been amazing ever since I picked it up at a second hand store. But sadly now it keeps making loud popping sounds - both when I have radio or plug in my laptop/phone.

Can anyone diagnose this for me / suggest what I can do?

Does it do it from BOTH loudspeakers (left & right) at the same time?
If so, the problem is likely somewhere in its power supply.
Can you provoke this noise by tapping or slapping the console?

It doesnt make the noise when i slap/tap it. But I changed the power and it seems to be working! So far anyway :)
Amazing! thank you so much for your help! fingers crossed that was it as I love this console!
 
Hi Again!
I moved house and now the popping is back with gusto. It had stopped for some time. Now it pops - it seems on one side, but happens when on radio or TA and when nothing is playing but the power is on. Any ideas for me?

Please don't 'slap' or hit the 'grundig'.. grundig is very good brand but this console has a lot of wires that can become loose inside.

Seems like the power cord possible. I assume you moved the console and it may be the power cord or the plug. Make sure the power cord is not twisted. If it is very soft and flexible it may need replacing or just a new power plug. try flipping the plug over and see if that helps.

If no experience then you'll have to have serviced but try the cord making sure not twisted first.
 
Hi @Binkman - I dont slap or hit it! But yes I moved which I feared is the issue.
I have checked the power cable. When you say flip the plug over what do you mean exactly?

Sadly I have NO ONE in this whole country to service it :/ - I live in Iceland
 
I know you live in "Iceland" and have a 220 vac plug. I don't know if you can reverse the plug the other way.
 
I was hoping op would post back. I understand the move but my sherlock holmes side says the move did something if was working okay. No info to inform so hope 'kitty' gets the update. (hopefully not shocked)

I did gloogle up some back pics of the Grundig Mandello as available. Seems some tubes inside and some wiring I wonder didn't get 'bumped' out of shape. But if tubes could just pull the tubes and clean the terminals and reinstall, (as a kid I did that and replaced tubes and my mother did, too. lol)

Now I know the op isn't capable of this stuff but perhaps has a friend with a screw driver and get the back off take some pics.. at least would be easy to see if connectors are connected and and nothing loose. Perhaps some old guy in the Icelandic area who has sw or radio experience would be helpful if tubes are trouble to pull and replace.. (usually easy in most cases but be aware the pins can bend if small tubes..

Provide tube numbers if possible... perhaps a sale can be made. The repair is probably worth the sound.

Ahh yes I remember the TV repair man used to come to your home and fix the old TV in minutes, he had a van full of tubes, those were the days.
 
Still no report back... wonder if moderator could send an email.

((I used to ride my bike around as well as many boys looking for junked phono's and tv's and radios for garbage pick-up. I knew a good tv guy and I'd bring all the tubes and test them at his place and he'd give me credit.. actually some of the tubes were very expensive and he and I would take the tv's back to his shop. ahhh the days..))
