Help identifying cartridge Ortofon "OVP" ?

Today I rescued a Kenwood linear tracking turntable KD-727 turntable from a thrift store (not a terrible table at all. Sounds pretty good, but darn if I can find the option to make ANY adjustments to it! It was part of their "High Density" line circa 1984, if anyone knows anything about those I'd be interested to hear). Anyway, it has an Ortofon OVP cartridge on it with a 5E stylus. Everytime I search for "Ortofon OVP" I start hitting incomprehensible pages in German. Anyone what this stylus is?

cb: Sure it's not an OMP, i.e. the T4P/P-Mount version of the OM? And the needle 5E basically is a less compliant variant of the needle 10 - not quite ideal for a P-Mount table with standard tracking force setting (1.25 g).

Well, and regarding the missing adjustments on your Kenwood: Anti-skating is superfluous anyway on a linear tracker, tracking force is also preset due to being a P-Mount table and pitch control usually also isn't needed on a model with quartz referenced motor regulation. So basically there are no means of adjustment, 'cause ideally there should be nothing to adjust. Nevertheless, a vtf fine adjustment screw (usually +/- 0.25 g) as present on quite a few Technics P-Mount tables isn't a bad idea in my opinion...

Oh, and OVP over here means Originalverpackung, i.e. original packaging - so it's no wonder you got quite a few misleading hits from over here...

Thanks, Lini. Nice for you to come to my rescue here! I'm used running into you're wonder knowledge over at Headfi. You're right, it is an OMP. The san serif fonts were put close together and I thought it said OVP! I hate so say it, but little Kenwood is giving my Thorens TD125 with a Grado black a run for its money - much to my chagrin!

You're welcome - and nice to see you again! Got to admit that I hardly ever visit Head-Fi anymore, though. I guess, for one thing because for my taste it has become a bit too commercial, plastered with ads and maybe also a bit too huge or blown up on the whole. And then I'm pretty happy with all the phones and amps I already have, so my desire to try new headphone related stuff has dwindled away pretty rapidly... Hence from some point on I didn't feel "at home" there anymore. Instead one can now find me on quite a few forums with turntable related content - mainly over on VinylEngine and here on AK, sometimes on VinylAsylum as well as on a few German forums... And once in a while I visit Mike's (aka PinkFloyd - I guess you'll also remember him from Head-Fi...) Rock-Grotto.

*lol* Almost forgot that I wanted to add something on topic as well: Yup, those little linear trackers often were/still are surprisingly good (at least the direct-driven ones - the belt-drive models usually seemed not so desirable to me...). In fact I still miss my old Technics SL-5, which in hindsight I probably should have never sold: Upgraded with an AT132EP that thingy sounded almost as good as the TD160Super with Grace G707 and Yamaha MC505 I bought next, but for less than half the price - and it was easier to use and less of a diva as well... That said, I'd nevertheless think you could do better than with a Grado Black on your Thorens. Or, alternatively, better than with an OMP5E on the Kenwood...
