Help identifying headshell?

The cartridge is an AT71. The headshell says SUPEX JAPAN on the metal part. Can anyone tell what model it is? This was on a used Technics SL-1700MKII that I picked up off of CL about six years ago and I'm just now looking it over to get it into working condition. Trying to decide on what kind of new headshell/cartridge to get but I'd like to know what this is first.

It's the Supex SuperLight SL-1. It should work fine on your Technics deck with just about any standard mount cartridge ever made. Anything else you need to know?

I am definitely a rookie when it comes to vintage audio and turntables in general. I am trying to find a cartridge headshell combination that will give me a nice warm sound on the Technics 1700-MK2 I'll be running through a Pioneer SA-8800. I'll be listening to everything from EDM (bass heavy), to classic rock, to heavy metal, to old school hip-hop.

The Ortofon 2M series seems to be immensely popular. However, I've heard many good things about the Nagaoka MP-110 and I'm not afraid to try something just because it isn't as popular. For some reason I really feel like going for the MP-110. My budget is around $250. I noticed Ortofon seems to have a large following, especially the 2M Red, but I've had my eye on the Nagaoka MP-110 because I hear great things about it as well.

With that said, if I do decide to get the MP-110 I have been told the best option is to use an oem Technics headshell with the MP-110 because the Nagaoka headshell is too heavy for the Technics table. Would you recommend keeping the Supex SuperLight SL-1 instead of getting a new Technics OEM headshell? I'm really open to a lot of suggestions but for some reason I really have an itch to try the Nagaoka.

Also, the AT VM540ML has been recommended to me recently. Not sure what to think about it yet as I haven't done much research on it or any of the newer Audio-Technica headshells or cartridges. I may be completely off base here, but they seem to be a step below other products in the same price range but I'll do some more research.

Thanks for the help!

The MP110 is fantastic. Just don’t buy it with the head shell, get it on its own and save some cash. You can use the head shell you’ve already got - there’s really no reason to buy a Technics-branded one.
