Help Identifying Polk Monitor 7B Midrange

Blur2018

New Member
I have a pair of Monitor 7Bs that clearly had a midrange replaced at some point and I'd like to swap that for the correct midrange (assuming I can find one). I can't seem to find the exact replacement for this model, as I've seen a lot of conflicting thoughts online and there are many different versions of this speaker. I'm hoping the AK crew can come through for me yet again.

I've attached pictures of the one that has the original midrange (which has no markings on the back of the driver, unfortunately), and the one with the replacement. Serial numbers are 43305 and 43308 if that helps.

Thanks in advance for any help with this!

FWIW those are two way speakers with a passive radiator - the bottom element is not a woofer - again, a passive radiator.
Electronically those are two way speakers so the middle element is a woofer and yours have the superior Peerless tweeter.
Great speakers!

Original one (rough looking cone) should be a MW6502.

Polk is/was still making replacement MW6502. It's easy to pull out the new one to check for a part # - see what it is.

Ah, got it! Thanks for the more accurate info. And yes, pretty stoked that they have the Peerless tweeters.

What's weird is I thought the original one was the same one you referenced, but that's the one without any labeling on the back at all (pictures attached). I never pulled the one with the smooth cone (which I assumed was the replacement) but I just did and it's a Polk MW6503 (more pictures attached) with an assembly label from the year 2013. The rubber surround was cut on this one to allow for the screws and it is torn, needing replacement.

So, do I just order matching MW6502s from Polk to be safe? Or is the fact that the one is a 6503 more accurate. Still super confused...

How does it sound?

I’d try some rubber cement on the surround and just enjoy them as is.
It’s not torn torn at the part that flexes.

Confusion is not good.

When you contact Polk be sure to let them know that you're looking for replacements for 7Bs and they should be able to tell you exactly what you need.

FWIW, My guess is the 6502 as the 6503 was for some of the the model 10s

One last thing if a self professed race car driving enthusiast, nay, nut:D shows up on this thread and drops some knowledge heed what he says as he is all knowing when it comes to Polk Audio.

The mid-driver should be the MW6502 (3.5 ohm). The MW6503 (6.5 ohm) is not a suitable replacement. Your best bet for MW6502's is eBay.

Excellent speakers, well worth sinking money into including upgrading the crossovers. Be sure to glue the magnets top and bottom to prevent shifting.

Got it. Thanks! I'll get in contact with Polk tomorrow. It seemed like there were different versions within the 7B line (different ohms maybe, can't quite remember). As I told @w1jim in a private message, these speakers were recently bumped by some ADS L710s (which sound absolutely incredible), but I'm curious to hear the true potential of these Polks.

Appreciate the info! I'll keep an eye out for those.
