Help identifying tube amps

Hello all,

I have the opportunity to pick up a couple of old tube amps, supposedly from the 1950s. I'm just starting to get into tube stuff so any help identifying what they are and advice on if they're worth fixing up would be very much appreciated. Photos attached.

I figured you would have gotten half a dozen responses already. Alas, I haven't a clue. Patience there is a wealth of knowledge in this web page. I expect you'll get an answer Shorty.

Looks like each one is a receiver chassis, maybe fixed frequency (I see a crystal in a socket, rather than a tuning cap). My guess: Muzak or other FM sub-carrier receivers, used for background music, other limited broadcast uses.

I'd keep looking. IMO the stuff pictured would be good for parts only. What are you wanting to do, build, or re-build? Lot's of guys start off with scavenged console amps. Welcome to AK.

Thanks for the input, guys. The price was tempting for two amps, but if it looks like a gut job, I think I'll pass and just start from scratch. The Compactron project posted around here looks intriguing...

If they are dirt cheap, you might get a power TX or two, and then the value of the tubes is there if they are good. Kind of a roll of the dice on usable parts, and very dependent on admission price. You must be talking about the 6LU8 project. I haven't built it but it does get high praise. Of course if this is your first serious tube project, a lot of guys start by building a nice simple single ended triode amp. Just tossing some ideas out.
