Help identifying Wharfedale mystery drivers

Hi Everyone,

My dad got his old Wharfedale drivers down from the loft and kindly gave them to me for my flat, unfortunately I can't identify them past the fact that they're Warfedales and were made in 1979.. The Boxes are long gone too, but apparently they didn't come with them originally and he actually brought the drivers / crossover as a kit and then had to buy the boxes separately. He thinks that they were called Unit 4's but I can't find much about them on google. My plan is to try and find out what kind of drivers they are and then hunt around for the correct designs for their boxes to build, so if anybody knows what they might be that would be amazing!

Hey man,

The knowledge I have about Wharfedale drivers is from the late 50's and early 60's. However, that looks to be a 2-way crossover. And since you have a woofer and a tweeter, it looks as though you have yourself a Wharfedale 2-way speaker system. First order of business would be to replace the 6uF capacitor with a new one. And since you're already ordering the caps, you may want to consider replacing the little green 22 ohm resistor as well. I have a pair of Leak 2060's and the components look very close. My caps were all 30 to 40% off spec, the resistors were also off.

You could go with a cabinet as small as the original Wharfedale W60, look online for physical measurements. But your bass response will increase with the size of the cabinet. I would suggest going as large as your new flat allows. Even up to a 5 cubic foot cabinet, might be kinda fun. I wouldn't lose any sleep over the project, do the best you can. Remember, if more acceptable cabinets come long later, you can always remove the drivers and crossover and put into the new cabinets. No biggie.
