Hey guys! I need help since im a new bye. I love listening to music every day and I want to upgrade my amplifier (i have a nasty sony reciver) into my definitive Hi-Fi equipment. I have a pair of technics Sb lx70 speakers.
I need for listening to vinyl records, CDs, and spotify via my phone. (so it needs phono and aux)-

These are my options:

1- Brand new marantz pm 6006
2- vintage 70s sansui, akai or pioneer amp
3- Technics SA dx-950

Thanks in advance for your wisdom and help

Kent,
Today I went to the store and I liked the Pioneer SX 780, Akai AS 970, Sansui TA 500, Sansui 5050 and the Marantz Sr2000 (for option 2)

Thank you

If it's not a restored unit you're taking a chance that something might pop up that will need to be looked at and it's a pain when you lose your system to age related crankiness. I do my own repairs and if I have to pull something out of my main system to go under the knife it's irritating.
I'll say the same thing to people new to the hi-fi chasing hobby. Your first real system doesn't have to be your last and you'd be better off putting money into a system that will work with no issues so you can learn what sound you like and what you don't as well as spending time and money on your music collection. If you decide to jump off the vintage ledge then there are countless things to buy later on.

The Marantz looks like a nice integrated. You might want to give a look at the recent Yamaha offerings as well.

Go with the modern Marantz. You'll get solid sound, resolving, transparent and with a 3 year warranty and a remote. Then you can listen to the music without the hassles of vintage gear. Then invest in your music, the rest of your system. Down the road spend some serious time investigatingredients vintage gear, if your interested and find something good you like that's been restored. Then you can enjoy whichever you like with a backup piece.

But this is also a good idea.

I love Technics. I've seen, heard and discussed everything totl Technics from the 60s to 00.

A1 AND matching pre. RS-1800. No really. Everything. Except those giant ten foot speakers.

Sell those speakers, they are crap.
Yes, I just did that.
Not crap, but bottom in rhe lineup of the 80s.

The speakers are, and I assure you I have read up, 40% of your sound. Another 40% is the recording. (I'm leaving vinyl carts out of this here)

If you would like Technics speaker suggestions, I will gladly help!

Old post, but I believe the Technics unit uses MOSFETs somewhere as it states on the front.... Very curious as to how it would sound? They can be had for very cheap...
