Help me choose a color

I know this is a guitar amp, but it is my first and well, it is tube powered. I'm making a mono guitar amp using an old Akai M7. I'm using as much as possible including the wood cabinet and cover. It will be sort of like a big suitcase when closed. I realize I need to buy some Tolex to cover the wood. At first I was thinking tweed, but that won't go well with the gray amp. I could do black and it would look pretty cool. But I want to make it look retro cool, so some color might be in order. Perhaps a green with tan grille cloth?

Metal Flake was used some back in the day. I particularly remember the old Kustom bass amps that were rolled blue metal flake vinyl. Sweet amp too.:yes: Can you even get metal flake in cans though?:scratch2:
 
and btw, great choice of an amp to build around.:yes: Those Akais are sweet, sweet sounding. I think it has to do with the pentode front end (EF86 in most).:music:
 
Thats cool. Be sure to employ the original handle if you still have it. I like your color choice but I would probably go with something close to the original skin, what was it bluish or greyish? Nah, I would go red. That would go well against the gray/green/brown or whatever color that metal face plate is. I'm color defecient by the way so I'm not much help. Hmm, is it any wonder I don't get anthing done.

The speakers they sold with those Akai R2Rs had an interesting cloth - black weave with silver threading running through them. That would be interesting grill cloth. I may have some that I removed from a pair. If you're interested I'll check to see how much I have.
 
Purple would look good with the gray face. I don't have the handle (except for the one on my intact M8). I will use a leather vintage Fender style handle. I need to go look at some amps to see the colors in person. I would hate to order the wrong stuff!
And BTW Jaymanna, you started this. I have had the M8 for like 20+ years but never wanted to strip it. I found another recently, but in a moment of weakness, I sold it to you. As I pulled the amps out of the case, I realized how cool they were, and easy to recap. Staring at the empty cab got me thinking, and I got the M7 amps from a local buddy. I may get another M8 soon. They are the coolest. John
 
Jay are you refering to the old tuck and roll on the kustoms. Maybe a green gater like the old Selmer amps
