Help me organize my sound system!

Hello audio wizards. I have compiled a bunch of random audio components through bartering and hard labor but now I'm a bit confused on how to group the different speakers. I would like the best setup for the living room and something more modest, but still nice, for my bedroom. Here's what I got:

Receiver:
- Onkyo TX-DS696

Subwoofer:
- Polk PSW 111

Center Channel:
- Polk CS1

Bookshelf Speakers:
- Polk Monitor 30
- Polk T15
- Sony APM-X5A (funky square-driver speakers that I THINK came with a sony television in the 80's. They look really cool but that's pretty much it, 30w max haha)

Floor Standing:
- JBL ND310II (newest edition, 6 hours of landscaping work. These things are huge)


With the JBL's woofers, I'm not sure if the diminutive Polk sub will add anything special to the mix. On that same note, is pairing the CS1 with the JBL's also a silly idea? I'm also aware that I'll need another receiver and suggestions are welcome. Thanks for any help!

So the living room isn't that big about 20x15. The tv is in the corner with big open doorways to the hall and dining room on either side. Windows are opposite the tv along the wall. I've attached a VERY crude layout of the room in .doc form.

I understand that I could try all the combos and see what works but I'm actually not moving into the place for another few months and don't have the room in my current apt to try it out. I'm most curious to see what people think about using my less beefy center channel or subwoofer with the JBL speakers, and which rear speakers to pair with the JBLs.

Suggestion, and this is a suggestion only, it really depends on your taste:

Living room: JBL ND310II, no subwoofer. Polk CS1 center channel only if needed. Rear speakers Polk T15, if you are going that way.

Bedroom: Polk PSW111 and Polk Monitor 30's

I am using the PSW10 subwoofer and the Monitor 30's in my 12x14 listening room. Great sounding system.

If you want an extra receiver for the bedroom system, I have had very good luck with the Sherwood RX-4109 receiver selling for around $100. I'm using three of them and they have worked quite well. The only concern is that they are not high current capable and need to work with speakers rated at 8 ohms.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think that's about what I was thinking. I really like the sound of the Monitor 30s and I think they would sound great in a smaller bedroom. As I will be living with 3 other people with all the bedrooms upstairs I'm hesitant to put the PSW in my room, might make some enemies.

Like I said I haven't moved into the place yet and haven't even tried out the JBLs yet. Should I be excited about these things? Would adding the CS1 just muddy the waters so to speak?
 
You never know. Myself, I go with 2 channel audio and am not a 5.1 or 7.1 type of guy. But since you have those speakers, give them a try. You DO have them, right? There's an old bible saying; "If thy subwoofer offends thee, cut it out."

Nothing is locked in stone and the basic advice we all have is that these are suggestions, your ears and the ears of the folks you are living with will be the final judge.:music:
 
Floor to ceiling speaker wall for the living room, get a small receiver and some minimus 7's for the bedroom...

Do you have a wife? That could change things. Oh I just read roomates... if you built it, they will come (people who like loud music that is).
