Help Me Out With Pro-Ject Tuner Box S Antenna Adaptor

Can't figure out exactly what adaptor I need
to connect F-connector antenna cable to the input.

Can you link me the right one?
Preferably Amazon.

This little tuner, with a short straight wire that came-with seems to hear stations some of my other tuners couldn't in that location. Sounds good, too. Nice for a 4"x4.5"x1.4" box.​

We have discussed this in other forums. i tried to get one from ebay as well, they say it is for DIN style connectors but it dos not fit. It was a RCA to F. Someone said Radio Shack sold one or had made one, I'd have to look to figure out what the part number was. In my case I replaced the DIN with a proper "F" connector as the adapter is a cheap fix if you can find one.
 
Below is the correct adapter.

This type of connector is commonly called a PAL type connector or a Belling-Lee connector.

As previously mentioned, it is possible to get an incorrect adapter, but if the dealer ships what they claim, you should be good to go.

Although I have no affiliation, I would tend to believe that the major parts suppliers would supply the correct adapter.

BTW, this type of connector dates back to around 1922.
 
I saw a PAL on Amazon and thought it might work, but Pro-Ject threw me off by calling it a DIN. Thank you, sir. I shall order forthwith. :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:


Confusing things somewhat, the male PAL and female PAL both look more male than female. On Amazon there are more of the male PAL to female F-connector, than there are female PAL to female F, and the latter is the one I need. I ordered this:

I've not considered a tuner in my home system but the other day in the car I pulled in 106.5FM out of OKC (I'm guessing) and heard lots of great tunes. That could be a reason right there.

Big edit: I just looked it up. Wow, it's Holdenville, OK! I'm impressed!

Anything east of me has to be strong. Need a higher antenna.
 
I have an aerial antenna up but its pointed towards OKC for tv. Holdenville is east of me so I would need to string something else up the pole and point it east.
But that might be worth doing. Dial it up, tune it in and let someone else do the DJing around here.

Give the partsexpress one a go and see if it works.

Fits perfectly. Once you guys assured me it was a PAL, then I found close-ups of the back of the tuner to determine that I needed a female/female, girl-on-girl type of adaptor. This one works perfectly.
 
Well, I threw together another simple dipole from copper tubing. This time it took 30 minutes instead of weeks, because it's all spread out on the work table - everything needed. The first one went on the Sony HD on the main rig; the second on the Box S in the bedroom.

I'd already posted previously my experience with the Tuner Box S, which has been better than some others have reported, and I found that thread and almost revived it before remembering this one is still on page one, so that would just be tacky. Now if it were a TU-X1 that I was renovating myself, I just might get away with that, especially if I had great pictures.

I could do it, too. If I knew anything about tuners other than spending a year one week restringing one. Got it done, finally, after a friend who had one let me look at his - not that doing so made a picnic out of it. Can't be much in a Tuner Box S, now, can there?

Someone in that other thread criticized the sensitivity of his. My bedroom is the worst spot in the house for tuner, or portable radio, reception. They all had some noise on even the strongest locals in there. Among those were NAD 4130 (working well now in garage), two KT-615s, an Emotiva pre/dac/tuner, a Sangean PR-D5 and CCrane RadioEP. The S-box received a cleaner signal with just the short single wire that comes-with. SQ is good. Not great, not best I've heard, not quite as good as my modded Sony.

I suspect, though, that its biggest weakness is selectivity, but I have no problems with that here. Might not be a good choice at all for a crowded dial. Fits easily in a crowded cabinet (or desk), though. Anyway, it occurred to me that due to its price coming down some months ago, perhaps a couple more AKers have picked one up. I'd be interested to know what others have found.
 
I’ve been using a Tuner Box S for a few weeks. It came with a PAL to coax adapter (from Audio Advisor, on sale). It’s replacing a Sony XDR-F1HD. The Sony can pull in stations a bit better but the sound quality of the Pro-Ject is far superior. I’m currently using rabbit ears. In a few years when we downsize to a smaller home I’ll likely put up an external antenna, if necessary.

I use an XDR-F1HD in my main rig and a Box S in a tertiary system. Both sound good, but the Box S does not seem better-sounding to me. However, I did have some mods done on the Sony, so that may be worthwhile investigating for those with a working stock Sony.

Have you tried adjusting the display color on the Box S? According to the user guide red, green and blue (default) are options. However I am unable to use the steps on page 4 to change to red or green.

Update: I spoke with a support person at Sumiko (they import/distribute Pro-Ject). We tried a few things (basically what's in the user guide) to no avail. He's getting his hands on a Tuner Box S and testing to see if he can recreate the symptom. I'm awaiting a call back.

No, haven't tried display color adjustment. Too small to be useful for me, anyway. I just set the presets, and scroll through them; that's what is important to me.

Would you be willing to try? You can access the user guide via the link in my post. It’s pretty straight forward. It won’t impact any settings you’ve made. I’d appreciate the effort. Thanks.

I never heard back from Pro-Ject. I’d like to have the results of another tuner when I contact them again.
 
That facility didn't work on the one I had!
I'm fact, many things didn't work as per the manual, even loading presets was a pain in the bum. I got there eventually but the procedure was nothing like that in the manual.
I replaced it with a combined steamer/internet radio and Dab+ and fm tuner for the same price which both works great and sounds good also.

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. I have a long list of little audio tasks I need to do, but doing it requires assistance from my very busy wife. I don't see getting that done in a timely manner; sorry.

No worries. Gary F verified it doesn’t work. I also found setting presets a bit quirky. Fortunately I only need 3.

Unlike the Sony, presets are saved when removing power to the tuner.
